As the students of English Education Department , it is important to us to know the kinds of approaches or theories related language teaching and learning. All of the approaches are conducted in teaching learning process in order to get the positive effect for the students and the teacher itself. The use of the approach itself is to improve or increase the students ability in learning.

By Saul McLeod , updated Behaviorism, also known as behavioral psychology, is a theory of learning which states all behaviors are learned through interaction with the environment through a process called conditioning. Thus, behavior is simply a response to environmental stimuli. Behaviorism is only concerned with observable stimulus-response behaviors, as they can be studied in a systematic and observable manner. The behaviorist movement began in when John Watson wrote an article entitled 'Psychology as the behaviorist views it,' which set out a number of underlying assumptions regarding methodology and behavioral analysis:.

The behaviorist theory, Mentalist theory, Rationalist theory otherwise calied Congitive theory , Empiricist theory Audiolingualism , and Cognitive-code theory are some of these theories. Of these, behaviorist theory and mentalist theory are mainly applicable to the acquisition of native languages while the rest can account for foreign language acquisition. Yet, the se five fundamental theories of language leaming cannot be totaliy divorced from each other, for "the objectives of second language learning are not necessarily entirely determined by natiye language competence inevitably serves as a foil against which to set second language leaming. Mother Tongue and Foreign Language Learnmg These five basic theories are, furthermore, very much complementary to each other, serving different types of learners or representing various cases of language leaming. They must not automaticaliy make us presume that firstand second language leamings are iden tic al or alike processes, though second language leaming is strongly tied up with first language acquisition. Obviously, native language growth must pave the way for foreign language growth. Then these five basiclanguage leaming theories are fundamental pillars of language leaming whose relevance to education is undeniable.

A brief overview of theoretical perspectives, learning theory, and instructional theory. In , John B. Watson proposed an alternative: classical S-R behaviorism. Constructivism, Behaviorism, and Cognitivism. Constructivism vs. Constructivism Learning is based on how the individual interprets and creates the meaning of his or her experiences.

Over the years many theories have been developed to examine the processes involved in learning. Most learning theories concentrate on the significance for the way that learning is delivered. There are many different ways of learning both formally and informally: as part of a group, such as in a classroom setting, one-to-one, such as in a mentoring or coaching arrangement, and self-learning. Furthermore people learn differently at different times in their lives and in different circumstances. This page examines the three main learning approaches.

The need for a bridge between basic learning research and educational practice has long been discussed. In each case, the respective author highlighted the information and potential contributions of available learning theories, the pressing problems faced by those dealing with practical learning issues, and a general lack of using the former to facilitate solutions for the latter. The value of such a bridging function would be its ability to translate relevant aspects of the learning theories into optimal instructional actions.

BEHAVIORIST THEORY AND LANGUAGE LEARNING
