E K Janaki Ammal

From making purchases to allocating your monthly pocket money to measuring quantities while cooking, all of us use math in our day-to-day activities even without realizing it. Further, he worked on the place value system using letters to signify numbers and stating qualities. He also explained how to find the cube and cube-root of an integer and gave rules facilitating the computation of squares and square roots. He made substantial contributions to Hardy-Ramanujan Littlewood circle method in number theory and worked on elliptic functions, continued fractions, partial sums, products of hypergeometric series and infinite series. Besides these, he had also made pioneering studies in the field of anthropometry and had founded the Indian Statistical Institute.

Their works, methods, procedure and theories are been studied and taught all over the world. We present to you the top 10 Indian physicists and what makes them different:. Sir Chandrashekhar Venkat Raman or C.

Raman, as he was called, is remembered for his revolutionary contribution to physics. His invention of the 'Raman Effect', a unique phenomenon in the scattering of light, earned him the Nobel Prize for Physics in Raman was prodigal since his childhood.

He completed his schooling at the age of 13 with a scholarship and received a Gold Medal in Physics from his Alma Mater, University of Madras. He was felicitated with numerous awards and recognitions-- the Hughes Medal in , the Bharat Ratna in and the Lenin Peace Prize in Satyendranath Bose was an Indian Bengali Physicist, best known for his contribution in the field of Quantum Mechanics. His inventions led to the formation of the Large Hadron Collider and the experiments conducted in it.

He studied in the Presidency College in Calcutta, which is the institution to some of the most known and respected scholars of our country.

He was a polygot and his interests ranged from various fields in science, arts and mathematics. Rabindranath Tagore dedicated his book Visva Parichay, his only science book to Bose. One of the most prominent astrophysicists of the world, Meghnad Saha was known for his creation of the 'Saha Concept' or the Saha ionization equation, a concept including theories and Quantum and Statistical Mechanics, which he developed in It is also called the Saha-Langmuir equation.

Saha was also popular for his other notable scientific works and his contribution to building several scientific institutions like the Physics department in Allahabad University and the Saha Institute of Nuclear Physics in Calcutta. Interestingly, Saha was the chief architect of river planning in India and prepared the initial plan for the Damodar Valley Project. Saha was also a Fellow of the Royal Society. His contribution to Nuclear physics is unfathomable.

He gained international prominence by creating the process of 'Bhabha Scattering', which is an electron-positron scattering process. Bhabha died in a plane crash near Mont Blanc in January 24, Subrahmanyam Chandrashekhar was an Indian astrophysicist who is known for his theory of the 'Chandrashekhar Limit'. He worked in various areas like the quantum theory on the hydrogen anion, radiative transfers, theory of white dwarfs and stellar dynamics.

Raman was his paternal uncle. He became a citizen of the United States in Vikram Ambalal Sarabhai was a very reputed Indian physicist who was regarded the father of India's space programme. He was awarded the Padma Bhushan in and the Padma Vibhushan posthumously in He married Mrinalini Sarabhai who is a renowned classical dancer.

Gopalasamudram Narayana Iyer Ramachandran was a famous Indian physicist who was known for creating the 'Ramachandran Plot'. He did his doctoral studies under the guidance of C. Jayant Vishnu Narlikar is an Indian astrophysicist. According to this theory, the gravitational constant 'G' strongly decreases with time. Apart from his studies in cosmology, Narlikar was appointed as the Chairperson of The Advisory Group for Textbooks in Science and Mathematics, a committee of the NCERT which is responsible for developing science and mathematics textbooks.

He was a recipient of the Adams Prize in He was conferred with the Padma Bhushan in and the Padma Vibhushan in Harish Chandra was an Indian-American scientist known for his contribution in physics and mathematics. He has many formulas and theories patented under his name.

His fundamental work in the Representation theory made him immensely popular. He has worked with popular scientist Homi J. Bhabha and mathematician Armand Borel. Sandip Chakrabarti is one of India's noted astrophysicists. He completed his M. He is famous for his research work in astrophysics and planetary motions. At the 3rd Hunsville, Alabama Conference on Gamma Ray Bursts in , he became the first scientist to suggest that the Gamma Ray Bursts are the birth cry of black holes.

Intellectual property rights: An overview and implications in pharmaceutical industry

Science plays an integral role in our day-to-day lives. Have you ever imagined what would we be doing if none of these things were invented? Kalam started his career by designing a small helicopter for the Indian Army. Dr kalam, born on October 15, left millions of people in shock as his soul departed on July 28 last year. When he passed away, the kind of outpouring in his honour this country witnessed is almost unprecedented.

Like most professions in India, the field of science is very much male-dominated. Many women, over the years, have made immense contribution to science, and have also paved a path for others to follow. Let us look at seven Indian women scientists who have broken stereotypes and are an inspiration to all. One of the few women mathematics researchers in the country, she completed her PhD, 16 years after marriage. She has been honoured with the Vishwanath Parvati Gokhale Award for one of her books in Marathi.

Intellectual property rights IPR have been defined as ideas, inventions, and creative expressions based on which there is a public willingness to bestow the status of property. IPR provide certain exclusive rights to the inventors or creators of that property, in order to enable them to reap commercial benefits from their creative efforts or reputation. There are several types of intellectual property protection like patent, copyright, trademark, etc.

Science and Technology Development in India

How often do we take out the time to think about those extra ordinary minds who made life easier for us? Raman also worked on the acoustics of musical instruments. He was the first to investigate the harmonic nature of the sound of the Indian drums such as the tabla and the mridangam. He discovered that, when light traverses a transparent material, some of the deflected light changes in wavelength. This phenomenon is now called the Raman scattering and is the result of the Raman effect. In October , he collapsed in his laboratory.

Scientists are persons of great minds, who ask question about the phenomenon and systematically answer the question themselves. No doubt, they are curious, creative and well organised. They have the ability to observe new things in a different way. Their discoveries have change the world and gave it a new dimension. It is correctly said by George C.
