Stakeholder theory

This paper uses a stakeholder framework to review the empirical literature on corporate social performance CSP , focusing particularly on studies attempting to correlate social with financial performance. Results show first that most studies correlate measures of business performance that as yet have no theoretical relationship for example, the level of corporate charitable giving with return on investment.

To make sense of this body of research, CSP studies must be integrated with stakeholder theory. Multiple stakeholders a set expectations for corporate performance, b experience the effects of corporate behavior, and c evaluate the outcomes of corporate behavior. However, we find that the empirical CSP literature mismatches variables in terms of which stakeholders are relevant to which kind of measure. Wood, D. Report bugs here. Stakeholder theory

This study aims to uncover the underlying multiple intervening mechanisms between corporate social responsibility CSR and customer loyalty. Social identity and social exchange theories offer the ground for prediction that the primary outcomes of CSR initiatives are customer—company C—C identification and customer trust, which in turn affect customer loyalty. Also, the differential effect of CSR behaviors toward specific stakeholder groups on customer attitudes and behaviors are examined. Data were collected from customers of telecommunication companies in Greece. Structural equation modeling was used to test the postulated relationships. The findings demonstrate that both C—C identification and customer trust intervene in the relationship between customer perceptions of CSR and customer loyalty; however, the identification mechanism is stronger than the trust mechanism in building customer loyalty while C—C identification seems to drive customer trust. The current study provides further insights into the complex relationship between CSR and customer responses and the impact that different CSR activities may have on customers.

What Is Stakeholder Theory and How Does It Impact an Organization?

Stakeholder theory was first described by Dr. We will also look at how individual projects may have an impact on a variety of types of stakeholders. That view is in opposition to the long-held shareholder theory proposed by economist Milton Friedman that in capitalism, the only stakeholders a company should care about are its shareholders - and thus, its bottom line. By contrast, Dr.

The stakeholder theory is a theory of organizational management and business ethics that accounts for multiple constituencies impacted by business entities like employees, suppliers, local communities, creditors, and others. The stakeholder view of strategy integrates a resource-based view and a market-based view, and adds a socio-political level. One common version of stakeholder theory seeks to define the specific stakeholders of a company the normative theory of stakeholder identification and then examine the conditions under which managers treat these parties as stakeholders the descriptive theory of stakeholder salience.

This article provides a basic understanding of stakeholder thinking, arguably one of the very few theoretical frameworks generated by the corporate social responsibility CSR literature itself, to explore the management challenges of CSR.

Stakeholder theory posits that the essence of business primarily lies in building relationships and creating value for all its stakeholders. Instead, CSR focuses on one stream of business responsibilities – responsibility to local communities and society at large – to ensure business does deliver on it.
