Therapeutic Potential of Mesenchymal Stem Cells for Cancer Therapy

Mesenchymal Stem Cell treatment for autoimmune diseases: a critical review. Fernando E. Santiago, Chile. Facultad de Medicina, Universidad de los Andes. Mesenchymal stem cells MSCs are now known to display not only stem cell multipotency, but also robust antiinflammatory and regenerative properties. After widespread in-vitro and in-vivo preclinical testing, autologous and allogeneic MSCs have been applied in a range of immune mediated conditions, including graft versus host disease, Crohn's disease, multiple sclerosis, refractory systemic lupus erythematosus and systemic sclerosis.

Mesenchymal stem cells in disease development and therapy

Mesenchymal stem cells MSCs are among the most frequently used cell type for regenerative medicine. A large number of studies have shown the beneficial effects of MSC-based therapies to treat different pathologies, including neurological disorders, cardiac ischemia, diabetes, and bone and cartilage diseases. However, the therapeutic potential of MSCs in cancer is still controversial. While some studies indicate that MSCs may contribute to cancer pathogenesis, emerging data reported the suppressive effects of MSCs on cancer cells. Because of this reality, a sustained effort to understand when MSCs promote or suppress tumor development is needed before planning a MSC-based therapy for cancer. Herein, we provide an overview on the therapeutic application of MSCs for regenerative medicine and the processes that orchestrates tissue repair, with a special emphasis placed on cancer, including central nervous system tumors.

The increasing number of clinical trials globally indicates the likely therapeutic potential of this specialized adult stem cell. Despite the enormous progress and data accrual at the molecular and cellular levels, several questions remain as to the utility of MSCs for clinical applications. Lucas Chase has extensive research experience in both adult and pluripotent stem cell biology. Upon obtaining a Ph. Chase joined the Stem Cells unit at Invitrogen Corporation now Life Technologies , working on the development of cGMP culture media, advanced cellular models and drug discovery assays. Recently, Dr. Chase joined Cellular Dynamics International, the world's largest producer of fully functional human cells derived from induced pluripotent stem iPS cells, to support efforts to develop novel cell-based models for drug discovery and basic life science applications.

The heart muscle relies on a steady flow of oxygen-rich blood to nourish it and keep it pumping. During a heart attack, that blood flow is interrupted by a blockage in an artery. Without blood, the area of heart fed by the affected artery begins to die and scar tissue forms in the area. Over time, this damage can lead to heart failure, especially when one heart attack comes after another.

Mesenchymal Stem Cells in Human Health and Diseases

Mesenchymal Stem Cells in Human Health and Diseases provides a contemporary overview of the fast-moving field of MSC biology, regenerative medicine and therapeutics. MSCs offer the potential to dramatically reduce human suffering from disease. Numerous MSC-based studies are ongoing each year, each offering hope for novel treatments in human disease. These discoveries are placed within the structural context of tissue and developmental biology in sections dealing with recent advances in our understanding of MSC biology. Hashash 2. Странное начало. Он постарался выкинуть этот эпизод из головы. Если повезет, он успеет вернуться и все же съездить с Сьюзан в их любимый Стоун-Мэнор. Туда и обратно, - повторил он.  - Туда и обратно.

Mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) are a heterogeneous subset of stromal stem cells that can be isolated from many adult tissues. They can differentiate into cells of the mesodermal lineage, such as adipocytes, osteocytes and chondrocytes, as well as cells of other embryonic lineages.
