Copper and Copper Alloys

Scientific Research An Academic Publisher. Davis, J. The reinforcement particles were encapsulated with silver as well as copper layer by using the electroless deposition technique to investigate the influence of the reinforcement surface coating on the microstructure, density, electrical and thermal properties of the sintered samples. The density of the sintered composites was measured by Archimedes method. The results observed that the sintered materials prepared from the coated powder have lower electrical resistivity than the sintered materials prepared from the mixed powders. On the other hand the thermal conductivity values were calculated using the heat transfer conduction values by means of the Fourier formula.

The influences of alloy composition, microstructure and heat treatment on chemical and mechanical properties of copper alloys will be discussed in relation to its.

A recent interest has grown to create antimicrobial copper touch surfaces, in order to counteract microbial spread in the healthcare environment. Related to the environmental bacterial contamination, samples were carried out on copper and control surfaces over three years after copper installation. In addition, some copper door handles were taken from the different facilities, and their specific activity against methicillin-resistant S. In comparison to control surfaces, copper door handles and handrails revealed significantly lower contamination levels.

Copper is a chemical element with the symbol Cu from Latin : cuprum and atomic number It is a soft, malleable, and ductile metal with very high thermal and electrical conductivity. A freshly exposed surface of pure copper has a pinkish-orange color. Copper is used as a conductor of heat and electricity, as a building material , and as a constituent of various metal alloys , such as sterling silver used in jewelry , cupronickel used to make marine hardware and coins , and constantan used in strain gauges and thermocouples for temperature measurement.
